Tip #1: Small Maintenance Repairs
So we live in our house day to day, we don't really notice those little things. It might be nicks on the wall or you might notice a clogged gutter, but those are things that we might want to address before we even list our house on the market. Buyers are going to be coming in and out of your house and they are going to notice it. So my suggestion is to kind of look around and see something that you might notice and get that fixed and addressed beforehand.Â

Tip #2: Declutter Your Home
I know this is a tough one. We're not all super clean freaks, but it's great to kind of get the moving process started early, so things that you aren't necessarily moving, get rid of it or box it up and put it in a storage unit so that it's not taking up as much space in your home.Â
Tip #3: Home Upgrades
When was the last time you updated your home? Now, I'm not asking you to go through and do a full reno of your kitchen or your bathroom, but if the last time it was updated was 20 years ago when you moved in, you are a little outdated. So we do want to keep that in mind when it comes to pricing our home and also just if you get an offer in and it's a little bit lower and there's something newer on the market that is completely updated, that's something to keep in mind.Â
Tip #4: Curb Appeal
I personally think this is one of the bigger ones because that's the very first thing buyers are going to see when they drive up to your home or in the pictures. It might be little things as getting it landscaped or getting a few things placed in the yard, but I think landscaping makes a huge difference when it comes to the curb appeal.
Tip #5: Depersonalize Your Home
I think the one that might be a difficult one for some people is depersonalizing your home. I know you live here, but you're going to have people walking in and out of your home and I think it's best to kind of put away a lot of the family photos, whether it be of grandchildren or children or just family in general. You want to give the buyers the opportunity to walk into that home and imagine themselves living there. If there's pictures of other families there, it's a little harder for them to really get into that.Â
Tip #6: Interview Real Estate Agents
Lastly, make sure you are interviewing agents. Do your due diligence. Find the person that's going to fit well with you and that they have a great marketing plan that they're going to bring to the table along with professional photography and also communication. I know that might sound silly, but one of the biggest complaints is "I didn't hear from my agent" or "I haven't heard from them in weeks." You want someone who's diligently checking in on you, making sure that you're updated.
