And let's not forget, one of the best things about living in Tucson is the affordable cost of living. The cost of living in Tucson is lower than the national average, which means your money goes further here. You'll find that housing, groceries, and other essentials are more affordable here than in other parts of the country.
Pro #9: Healthcare
Lastly, the healthcare here is excellent, with several hospitals and medical centers to choose from. Whether you need emergency care, primary care, or specialized care, you can rest assured that you're in good hands.
While there's definitely a lot of great things about this city, there are also some downsides you should know about.
Con #1: Summer Heat
First off, the heat in the summer can be intense. Like, really intense. Temperatures can reach over 105 degrees, so if you're not a fan of the heat, this might not be the place for you. It's important to have a good air conditioning system in your home or apartment and also have a plan to stay cool during the hottest hours of the day.
Con #2: No Traditional Seasons
Speaking of summer, if you're someone who loves the changing seasons, you might be a little disappointed here. Although we have sunshine around 350 days a year, we don’t have traditional seasons like other areas of the country. So, if you're someone who likes snow or fall leaves, this might not be the place for you.
Con #3: High UV Index
One thing to consider is the high UV index in Tucson. With so much sunshine, it's important for residents to take precautions to protect their skin from sun damage. So, if you're someone who's sensitive to the sun, this might not be the place for you.
Con #4: Professional Sports Team
When it comes to major entertainment options, Tucson may not have as many options as some other bigger cities like Phoenix. While the city does have some cultural and recreational options, you might find that the city's offerings are more limited. Luckily Phoenix is a quick hour and a half drive away so you are still close enough to all of the major sporting events and bigger shows!
Con #5: Traffic
Traffic can also be a pain during peak hours, and public transportation is pretty limited. So, you'll probably need a car to get around. Public transportation is mostly limited to buses, so it's important to have a car or access to a car to get around.
Con #6: Risk of Wildfires
Another thing to keep in mind is the risk of wildfires. With the dry climate and hot temperatures, fires can spread quickly, which can be a big concern living in the desert. It's important to stay informed about fire conditions and take precautions to protect your property and community.
Con #7: Flash Floods During Monsoons
Lastly, flash floods and monsoon storms can also be a problem in Tucson during the monsoon season, which starts around mid July and can go into early fall. These wind and rain storms can be dangerous to drive in and also cause some damage to homes or cars, depending on the severity of the storm. So, it's something to think about before you move. It's important to be aware of flood zones and have a plan in place in case of severe weather.
All these factors come together to make Tucson a fantastic place to live. The warm weather, outdoor activities, natural beauty, and rich history, all make Tucson a city that has something for everyone.
