If you’ve been considering moving to Tucson I’m sure you’ve had many questions come up but have a hard time finding answers. Today I’m going to go over the top 5 most frequent questions I get asked from my clients about Tucson.
1. What is the weather like?
Being located in the Sonoran Desert, it’s known for its hot and dry climate. During the summer months, temperatures can get above 105°F during the day, and even stay pretty warm at night. It's important to stay hydrated and avoid being outside during the hottest part of the day during the summer.
During the winter months, temperatures in Tucson are much milder, with temperatures averaging anywhere from the low 50’s to the mid 60’s. This is a great time to explore the city's many attractions and be outdoors!
One thing to keep in mind when visiting Tucson is that we experience a monsoon season during the summer months, typically from July through September. This can bring sudden, heavy rain showers and lightning storms, these storms are beautiful and can help cool off the desert but it’s also important to be very careful during these storms, especially when driving.

2. Where should I live?
With a rich history and eclectic mix of old and modern, Tucson’s neighborhoods are diverse and vibrant. Here are 4 of some of the most popular neighborhoods:
Catalina Foothills
Located in the northern part of Tucson, Arizona, at the base of the Santa Catalina Mountains. It's known for its stunning natural beauty, upscale homes, and luxury resorts. The neighborhood is a popular choice for families, retirees, and professionals who are looking for great homes and access to a lot of outdoor activities. The Catalina Foothills is also known for its excellent schools, with several highly-rated public and private schools in the area. The neighborhood is also home to several shopping centers and restaurants, making it a convenient place to live.
The El Presidio Historic District
Named for the Spanish military garrison that was once stationed there, the El Presidio Historic District is the city’s first neighborhood. This charming neighborhood has been restored to its former glory as historic homes have been restored. Additionally, the area is full with excellent food and art; highlights include the Tucson Museum of Art and the original El Charro Café, a place renowned for its world famous chimichangas.
Sam Hughes
Home to the University of Arizona, Sam Hughes is a green neighborhood where a lot of academics and young professionals in the city can be found.
Territorial-style houses and mission-style bungalows line the streets of this vibrant area. A massive variety of restaurants and shops are within walking distance, making this area highly enjoyable on foot or bike. Additionally, Sam Hughes is blocks away from The University of Arizona.
Dove Mountain
This upscale golf-course development is situated at the base of the Tortolita Mountains, in the suburb of Marana. Due to its amenities and ease of access to the freeway, Dove Mountain has become one of the most eye catching neighborhoods in town.
3. What are some of the high paying jobs in Tucson?
Just to list a few, to start,
Physicians and Surgeons are some of the highest-paid professionals in Tucson. They earn an average annual salary of $262,000.
Dentists are also well-paid in Tucson, with an average annual salary of $191,000.
Aerospace Engineers design and develop spacecraft, aircraft, missiles, and other aerospace-related equipment. They earn an average annual salary of $115,000.
Pharmacists are responsible for dispensing medications and providing advice on their use. They earn an average annual salary of $106,000.
Financial Managers are responsible for overseeing an organization's financial operations. They earn an average annual salary of $99,180.
Industrial Engineers design and optimize complex systems, processes, and organizations to increase efficiency and reduce waste. They earn an average annual salary of $97,600.
Physical Therapists are responsible for helping patients recover from injuries and illnesses. They earn an average annual salary of $92,790.
4. When is the best time to visit Tucson?
If you enjoy outdoor activities like hiking and exploring the desert, the best time to visit Tucson is during the fall (September to November) or spring (March to May). During these seasons, temperatures are generally mild and comfortable, making it easier to enjoy the outdoors.
If you prefer cooler temperatures, the winter months (December to early March) is also a good time to visit Tucson. While daytime temperatures are generally mild, it can get chilly at night and the early morning, so make sure to pack warm clothes. Additionally, winter is a popular time for Tucson's many festivals and events.
Summer (May to end of August) in Tucson can be quite hot, with temperatures regularly exceeding 105°F. However, if you can handle the heat, you can find good deals on the local resorts and enjoy all the city has to offer!
5. Is Tucson an affordable place to buy a house?
Now this all solely varies person to person. Tucson is known for being a fairly affordable place to live. Tucson’s cost of living is 6% lower than the national average and 5% lower than the state average. Housing costs are also 25% lower than the national average with median home prices around $375,000 and median rent prices around $1200. Compared to many other surrounding states, you get more bang for your buck here, when it comes to housing.
